underneath the covers [04.22.05]
Pick a few lines from a song. Paste them into http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr . Do the following translations:

English -> German
German -> French
French -> English

Post the resulting lyrics and see who can guess the song!

1. "
precisely use me, to form your right of feeling of body"

2. "My guitar draw aside and the innumerable manners celebrate to wish which I love you leave you"

3. "try to neglect whole blood on the floor, its this one just this heart on my case which purges"

Dude, that's kind of a cool way to write poetry! It may be grammitcally incorrect, but there are some good ideas in there...

I'll give you hints: its 3 different bands/singers, and two of them are indie rock bands.

If you haven't already seen the commercial on TV or heard about the campaign some other way, visit the One website and watch it, elarn about it, do whatever you can; just see what they are doing. Its cool Bono got all these stars and powerful figures to join in. And you get to see pretty Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom, among others...

I love Bono with all my heart. If he isn't made a saint after he passes away, I just wont understand that. Oh yeah the years of hardcore rocking might be an issue...maybe the bellydancers...

Bono! [04.18.05]
I'm going to be nice and put this under a cut. But in case you didn't already know how flippin' awesome (and hot) Bono is, or just need some refreshing, I found some examples.

Bono....is kind of a big deal. Oh yeah and he's my Jesus. )

From Gawker.com, two photoshopped versions of this week's TIME magazine which put Ann Coulter on the cover:

I love photoshop. Even though I cant do it.

[ music | MM- So Much Beauty In Dirt. ]

Today during lunchtime I finished the english book I was reading, A Conferderacy of Dunces. I was a little dissapointed in its ending, but it was still a factastic novel. I'm actually going to lecture today because I want to hear what the lecturer says about it today.

Now don't go thinking I'm being a good student now. Today in art history my prof bitched at us AGAIN how we pretty much suck at exams. I exaggerate slightly because she says it in a patronizing condesceneding manner, not really bitching. although she takes way too much time up implying how most of us have no idea what we're doing. If I WERE a better student I would be like "shit, I better study hard and go to office hours to spend more time with this bitchfist", but no, it makes me give even less of a shit about this class. I'm gonna try, but not that hard. Thats why I am an english major, and next semester I'll be taking Big Bands and Art 101 as non-major courses instead of art history. Eat me.

Jump people: Bethany, you reviewed Athens as if it were  live porn show in germany. Its astounding that thats actually what Matt Bivins makes it seem like. Let's not tell him this. Oh wait he reads opium...Just talking online with all the girls last night made me realize how sexually frustrated we all are. Its getting sad. Viscious cycles puncuated by Jump shows. *sigh*

My new favourite MM song: "You're the Good Things". The lyrics to this song seem on the surface to be odd observations of how the person Isaac is singing about is so special. But they are deeper than that and hit a personal note. This person Isaac is singing about is someone he can't live with and can't live without. She (i'm assuming its a girl) is the good thing in a world of bad things. She is good but comes with bad. And it kills him, but it's reality. It kills him that everything is so fucked up, but theres still something so good about her, and he loves her despite how shitty the situation is. You kill me but I can't live without you.

You're the icing on the cake on the table at my wake. You're the extra ton of cash in my sinking life raft. You're the loud sounds of fun when I'm trying to sleep. You're the flowers in my house when my allergies come out. you're the good things.

Look at each individual observation on its own; each allegory is so true. Isaac, dang yo. You're both what makes my life hell and what makes it worth living simultaneously. Modest Mouse is severly underrated.

I'm so tired. When I get home I get to watch the season finale of AD that I missed because of work last night. Yay. Then I'll probably do nothing.

These lyrics were written in paragraph form on this website and i liked that.

Modest Mouse "So Much Beauty in Dirt"

Out of breath and out of cash, find yourself watching M.A.S.H., every night
on the couch. Woman says let's take a drive down south, roll down the
windows and open our mouths taste where we are and play the music loud. Stop
the car, lay on the grass, the planets spin and we watch space pass. Walk a
direction, see where we get. I never knew nothin' so there's nothin' to
forget. Get real drunk and ride our bikes. There's so much beauty it could
make you cry. The rich get money but never what they want. Find ourselves a
new place to haunt. Climb up the fire escape do it 'til the ground looks far
away. Go night swimming, leave our clothes on the ground, when we get busted
we just stand there proud. It's the truth we all been wrong make it up and
let's move on. Playing cards we all get to act sly, there's so much beauty it
could make you cry.

[ music | don't you hear that defeaning roar? ]

I saw David Sedaris tonight at the Orpheum Theatre in Madison. I figured going right when doors opened would leave me sitting around for a while, so I bought a hoodie at Urban first. Then as I walk up State St to the theatre, I notice theres kind of a lot of people up there. The line. Is around. The block. I called Maggie in my disbelief and severe underestimation of this town! The line went by fine, it helped to have Maggie to talk to and gush about Jump to while I waited.

Got in the theatre, got me a nice vodka tonic with cran (for 3.50! sweet) and sat my lone self down towards the back on the aisle seat so I could get in line to get my book (Dress Your Family...) signed after. Yeah that 3 fiddy cocktail got me buzzing and I told myself to slow down. It didnt lastlong, thankfully. Getting drunk by yourself ina room of strangers can't be good.

David is effing adorable. He's almost fifty years old but speaks with a lisp so its endearing, yet you still respect the shit out of him for all he's done in his life. Some people don't get his humour, then theres this select grouping of people who laugh their intestines out at his random, witty, observational writing. It was a great crowd.

He read some fables about cats and chickens and baboons first; they were weird, because they were like stories of everyday scenarios and life questions, just from the perspective of a hen or a baboon. They were funny and interesting how he made the animal characters like humans.

Then he read some stuff he wrote for the new yorker, then some entries in his diary which were really funny; jokes and stuff, and funny things that happened to him. He talked a lot about monkeys.

After I got up right away and went to the signing table, 3rd in line (after some curly-haired chick just stepped in front of me-- I was like "wtf" but this chick...I was gonna let her have her moment, whatever). When David got there he pulls out this bag full of markers and stamps- it was so funny, him getting all his stuff out as this lady has him sign every book he's ever done. I got there and we had the requisite "so why do you say it that way?" regarding my name. He also asked what i studied, and I said I was an english major. "Are you a writer?" "Yes I write about music and do other journalism stuff" "I could never write about music, i'd never know what to say. whats your last name?" "Swenson" "well that sounds like a good critic's name." Then I thanked him, he was a nice guy! He makes an effort to humour everyone and make chit chat, he doesnt have an air of holier than thou or anything. But I still felt a bit dumb, since he's a real writer. I just pretend to know what I'm talking about. But it was fun. And he drew a jack-o-lantern in my book! And it's April! Cool guy. He swore a lot too in the stories he told and there was a lot of sex talk; cracked my shit up.

My friend Anna called me earlier to tell me of a gathering, but when i stopped by the house there was no one there, no lights. I could call her, but I'm lazy and like my sweatpants.

I got such work done today at the library-- the computer lab there is so condusive* to getting my shit done. Tomorrow I am going to go get some milk and tofu, buy this purse I saw at urban (I must have it. I dont care that I'm broke. Daddy is sending me money tomorrow. shut up.) Then I could go to the library...I'll probably just go to the coffee ship and read my book which is really great btw, its titled "A Confederacy of Dunces" by Toole, and its hilarious yet a real literary masterpiece, a pulitzer winner. I'm writing my paper on it, and its weird because I feel like writing an analysis on a book I really like takes away from my enjoyment of it. But this time I'm only focusing on one character, so hopefully it wont ruin the book for me too much.

*I made this word up but it sounded right.
